CASE STUDY: Advanced Executive Boardroom

A greater level of control is provided by a lectern mounted TPS-12QM touch panel. This panel also provides automated source selection of inputs to any of the QuickMedia interfaces, but a unique feature of this system also allows each of the flip top boxes to be independently disabled from the touch panel, thus preventing someone from unknowingly disrupting a meeting. Other key features include full control of audio and video teleconferencing. Such features were important to allow executives to communicate effectively with other corporate offices across the country. Video conferencing was accomplished with a Polycom VSX-8000. By emulating Polycom’s inherent on screen navigation control and simply enhancing its presentation we effectively created intuitive video conferencing both for those who had used similar hardware in less sophisticated applications and those who had never conducted a video conference before. Similarly professional audio teleconferencing was integrated by using Clear One’s TH-2 telephone interface in conjunction with a XAP-800 audio processor. Serial control of the telephone interface makes teleconferencing as easy as dialing a phone. In addition to teleconferencing the XAP-800 also provides all the necessary microphone mixing and voice reinforcement once again completely transparent to any user.

A third point of control involves Crestron’s e-control web interface. This web interface essentially duplicates all control available from the TPS-12QM; however it serves a far greater purpose than repetition. Because it can be accessed via web browser outside of the boardroom and it provides both control and feedback in real-time it is an excellent tool for the IT support staff. Essentially an entire meeting could be controlled without ever stepping foot in the boardroom. More importantly IT support is able to provide fast, effective assistance should it ever be needed.
